Kauiki Head is the most prominent landmark in Hana. It is situated at the right end of the spectacular Hana Bay. The beautiful Hana Beach Park is located on Hana Bay. Hana Bay lies just north of Kauiki Head. The Kauiki Head offers great views of the surrounding picturesque landscape and is certainly worth a visit.
According to a popular legend in Hana, Kauiki Head is named after Kauiki, an adopted son of the Menehune, the ālittle peopleā of Hawaiian tradition. Kauiki had reached the Menehune on a wave and was considered to be a gift of the ocean. When this small boy grew to be a fine young man, he fell in love with Noenoe, the daughter of the demigod Maui. Unfortunately, Maui did not endorse their union and when the lovers disobeyed him, he turned Kauiki into a hill and Noenoe into the mist, which comes to caress the hill every day.
